Soča Valley: Where the River Defines the Journey
Few Slovenian landscapes are as immediately recognizable as the Soča Valley. Its clear emerald river cuts between forested slopes, limestone mountains and narrow gorges, connecting a chain of places that feel both wild and deeply inhabited.

Exploring the Soča Valley: Four Stops to Experience
1. Bovec & the Upper Soča
Surrounded by the Julian Alps, Bovec makes an ideal gateway into the upper valley. Scenic roads follow the river toward Trenta, Lepena and some of the Soča’s clearest pools.
2. Great Soča Gorge
One of the river’s most dramatic sections, the Great Soča Gorge runs for roughly 750 metres, with narrow rock walls enclosing intense emerald pools that reach around 15 metres deep.
3. Kobarid & Kozjak Waterfall
Near Kobarid, a pleasant approach through forest and over small bridges leads toward the 15-metre Kozjak Waterfall, hidden inside a rocky amphitheatre above the Soča.
4. Tolmin Gorges
At the southern end of the valley, the Tolminka and Zadlaščica carve through spectacular rock. The gorges form the lowest entry point into Triglav National Park, at approximately 180 metres above sea level.
