The Complete Slovenia Journey
Grand Slovenia is the package for guests who do not want to choose between the Alps, coast, caves, capital and wine country.
Across five private days, the itinerary connects all eight destination groups featured throughout your website while keeping the journey manageable and logically structured.
Guests can keep Ljubljana as their base for the standard programme, meaning there is no need to repack and change hotels every night. Each morning begins with private pickup, and each day's route focuses on one geographical part of Slovenia.
The result is a complete private journey across the country without turning Slovenia Road Trips into an accommodation package provider.
Why Choose Grand Slovenia?
All Eight Signature Regions: The broadest Slovenia Road Trips experience.
Five Private Travel Days: Enough time to see variety without compressing everything into one or two days.
Ljubljana-Based Option: Keep one hotel while we handle the daily driving.
Alps to Adriatic: Experience the full geographical contrast of Slovenia.
Wine-Country Finale: Finish at a slower pace among vineyards and hilltop villages.
Private & Flexible: Your party, your vehicle and a journey organised around the agreed itinerary.
Day 1: Ljubljana & Velika Planina
Begin with the capital before moving into the mountains.
Pickup from your Ljubljana accommodation.
Time in Ljubljana’s historic centre, with major sights around Town Square, Triple Bridge, Prešeren Square and the castle area.
Continue toward the Kamnik area and the cable-car access for Velika Planina.
Ascend to the plateau using the local cable-car system.
Walk toward the traditional herdsmen’s settlement.
Experience its distinctive low-roofed shepherd huts and high-Alpine landscape.
Return to Ljubljana.
Official Velika Planina information describes the herdsmen’s settlement as one of the few of its scale in Europe, with shepherds and cattle returning during the summer grazing season.
Day 2: Bled & Bohinj Lakes
Ljubljana → Lake Bled.
Bled Island panorama and optional pletna.
Optional Bled Castle.
Continue through the Alpine landscape to Lake Bohinj.
Lakeside exploration.
Optional Savica Waterfall or Vogel depending on timing.
Return to Ljubljana.
The two lakes provide a strong contrast: Bled combines island, castle and resort heritage, while Bohinj is Slovenia’s largest natural permanent lake.
Day 3: Kranjska Gora, Vršič & Soča Valley
Ljubljana → Kranjska Gora.
Lake Jasna.
Optional Planica Nordic Centre.
Vršič Pass when conditions permit.
Trenta and the upper Soča.
Great Soča Gorge and selected viewpoints.
Bovec / Soča Valley.
Return to Ljubljana.
The official Soča Valley destination identifies the Great Soča Gorge, Tolmin Gorges, Kozjak Waterfall and other natural and cultural attractions among the region’s major highlights.
Day 4: Postojna, Predjama & Piran
Ljubljana → Postojna Cave.
Underground cave experience.
Predjama Castle.
Continue toward Slovenian Istria.
Piran Old Town and Tartini Square.
Waterfront and optional city walls.
Return to Ljubljana.
This is a proven full-day combination: Visit Ljubljana currently sells Postojna, Predjama and Piran together as a 10-hour excursion.
Day 5: Vipava Valley & Goriška Brda
Finish the journey at a slower pace.
Depart Ljubljana toward the Vipava Valley.
Scenic drives through vineyards and villages.
Optional pre-arranged winery visit or tasting.
Continue toward Goriška Brda.
Explore the fortified medieval village of Šmartno, whose preserved walls and towers form one of Brda’s key heritage sights.
Continue through vineyard-covered hills around Dobrovo, Gonjače and surrounding villages according to timing.
Optional wine or local-produce stop by prior arrangement.
Return to Ljubljana.
Wine-growing in the Vipava Valley has a documented history extending back at least two thousand years, while Brda’s official tourism offer revolves strongly around its landscape, wine, culinary traditions and heritage.
